Our gym family is heartbroken as we mourn the trag Our gym family is heartbroken as we mourn the tragic and untimely loss of our student, teammate, and brother, Jorge.

Jorge was the heartbeat of our mats. He was the definition of a “consummate worker,” showing up daily to bring light and joy into the grueling work of training. In a sport that demands so much, Jorge had a rare gift: he made the hardest rounds feel lighter with his laughter and his constant presence.

To lose such a kind, vibrant soul to a senseless act of violence is a loss we cannot put into words. We are shocked and numb, but we are a family. Jorge taught us that you can strive for greatness while never losing your smile, and we will carry that lesson with us every time we step onto the mats.

We were lucky to have known him, to have trained beside him, and to have called him a friend. We will carry his love and his laughter forward as we continue to push ourselves in his honor.

Rest in peace, Jorge. You will always be a part of this team. 🥊
If your training never embarrasses you a little, i If your training never embarrasses you a little, it’s probably too safe.

The right kind of practice puts you in situations where you’re exposed—late, off-balance, misreading distance, making the “wrong” choice. You look inexperienced. You feel awkward. Good. That’s the price of real learning.

Martial skill isn’t built by rehearsing perfect answers. It’s built by stepping into live, messy problems and letting your nervous system figure things out. Perception, timing, and adaptability only grow when the environment pushes back.

If the path matters to you, you’ll stay with it through those early failures. And even if your style evolves, your approach changes, or your game takes a different shape—you’ll never regret having stepped onto the mat and tested yourself.

That’s the work. That’s the way.

New belts don’t make you better. New tournaments d New belts don’t make you better.
New tournaments don’t make you better.
New goals don’t make you better.

New habits do.

Progress in martial arts isn’t the result you chase—it’s the lifestyle you live.
Showing up when you’re tired.
Engaging fully in training and problem-solving on the mat.
Sleeping well. Eating well. Recovering with intention.
Respecting the process even when the payoff feels far away.

A lifestyle is a system, not a finish line.
Build the habits of a martial artist, and the results take care of themselves.

Train the process.
The outcome will follow.

One of the most important qualities a martial arti One of the most important qualities a martial artist can develop is the willingness to try.

You don’t start with confidence—you build it by stepping onto the mat and giving it a go.

Your mind and body are incredible learners. Every rep, every round, every mistake is teaching you something. You will get better at whatever you practice consistently.

But before skill, before success, before confidence… comes courage.

Courage to attempt the technique.
Courage to spar.
Courage to fail and show up again.

Growth in martial arts always begins with the decision to try. 🥋#muaythai #muaythailife #martialarts #martialartist #martialartstraining #brooklyncenter #brooklyncenter #minneapolis #teamacademy

True confidence isn’t something you hype yourself True confidence isn’t something you hype yourself into.
It’s something you earn.
Confidence in a fight comes from surviving hard rounds.
Confidence in your technique comes from actually performing in practice.
Confidence on competition day comes from all the days you showed up when training didn’t feel good.

In the beginning, you won’t feel confident.
You’ll need courage—to step on the mat, to get corrected, to fail in front of others.

That’s the price of real confidence.

Courage comes first.
Confidence comes later—after the work has been done.

Train accordingly.

Your discipline isn’t just in your mind — it’s in Your discipline isn’t just in your mind — it’s in your environment.

You can have strong willpower, but if you’re surrounded by distractions and easy exits, you’re fighting uphill every day.

Martial artists don’t win by swimming upstream — we win by shaping the current.

Build an environment that makes discipline automatic:
• Keep your gear visible and ready.
• Train with people who push you to level up.
• Remove the distractions that pull you off your path.
• Create a space that reminds you of your goals.

When your environment is disciplined, you don’t need to force discipline. You just follow the path you’ve already set.

Your environment is always talking to you. Telling Your environment is always talking to you.
Telling you to relax, to scroll, to skip the hard work.

But as martial artists, we know better: the space around you can either sharpen your edge or dull your discipline.

Look around your environment right now.
What small change could you make—removing a distraction, adding a reminder, setting your gear out—that would pull you toward better habits and away from excuses?

Your surroundings shape your training.
Shape them back. 🥋🔥

A bad grip? Easy.
A bad angle? Fixable.
But giving up position or falling into a trap—those can be hard to unwind.

That’s why awareness matters. Slow down when the consequences are big.

But if you do make a mistake you can’t take back, don’t waste energy beating yourself up. Staying frustrated just gives your opponent more openings.

Your job is simple: make the best next move from where you are.
Breathe. Recompose. Start solving the position you’re in.

Next play mentality. Reset and roll forward.

As martial artists, we chase progress — but progre As martial artists, we chase progress — but progress isn’t just about winning.

7 or 8 times out of 10… you should be succeeding.
• Hit the technique clean.
• Execute the game plan.
• Build momentum and stack small victories.
Success fuels confidence — and confidence fuels consistency.

But 2 or 3 times out of 10… you should be failing.
• Roll with someone who pushes your limits.
• Try the new technique that feels awkward.
• Put yourself in the bad positions on purpose.

Failure is where the growth hides.
You don’t learn much staying comfortable — you learn when you stretch your limits.

Win enough to keep moving forward.
Lose enough to keep evolving.

That’s how you sharpen your edge.
That’s how you become dangerous.

Everyone talks about mental toughness like it’s ab Everyone talks about mental toughness like it’s about surviving the hardest fight.
Pushing through the pain. Grinding it out. Finding a way to win.

But most days, it’s not about the final round.
It’s about showing up to train when you’re tired.
It’s keeping your focus when the room’s quiet.
It’s doing one more rep when no one’s watching.

Mental toughness isn’t what happens under the lights—
it’s built in the days that are easy to skip.
